Case Study

A long standing customer has been regularly purchasing vitamin B12 in Gelatin form from Supreem for many years. Their R&D developed a new product using the above vitamin B12 in Gelatin. The new product showed visible spots of vitamin B12 giving a mottled appearance to the tablet. Their R&D team tried several experiments to remove the mottled appearance.

After many unsuccessful attempts, the client sought assistance from Supreem. After thorough analysis of the problem, including studying their manufacturing process and several rounds of discussions with their technical team, Supreem determined the problem to be with high bulk density of the vitamin in their new formulation. Therefore, we recommended to use the same ingredient in a Spray Dried form instead. The spray dried form with its low bulk density distributed uniformly in their formulation, and thereby eliminating the problem. The mottled tablet after experiments presented a uniform light pink color tablet extremely elegant in appearance.

The client was able to successfully commercialize their product. This product continues to sell in the market, ensuring steady business for Supreem as well.

Case Study

One of our oldest customers regularly procures Vitamin D3 Stabilised (4011) for use in one of their Calcium preparations.

Based on articles that appeared in Scientific Journals on the extra advantages of using Oyster shell Calcium in place of normal Calcium Carbonate, this customer replaced Calcium Carbonate with Oyster shell. They found the D3 assays to be dropping drastically. They were unable to determine the cause for this reduction. Suspecting that the issue may be with our supply of D3, they approached us with their concern. A detailed analysis by our expert team of the sample shipped to the customer, determined that the issue may not have been caused by Vitamin D3 Stabilised (4011) that we had supplied.

We requested for a sample of the Oyster shell Calcium from the customer for further analysis.  A detailed study lead to the conclusion that certain natural ingredients in the Oyster shell were detrimental to the stability of Vitamin D3. All D3 Stabilised formulae were tested by our team and only Vitamin D3 Coated 100 IU/mg (4013) was able to withstand the onslaught that too with high overages.

The analysis and findings were shared with the customer. The customer reconstructed the experiments in their laboratory, which validated our findings. The customer changed over from 4011 to 4013 and added overages recommended by us.

The product is doing extremely well in the market and the customer has become a significant consumer of our 4013 product.

This study enabled Supreem to solve the stability issues faced by other 4-5 customers who were facing similar issues.
